Project summary
In order to offer the same quality to all home owners, France-Terre, a private developer, decided to integrate a PV system in the roof of each house or building of the community : 19 individual houses are equiped with a 1 kWp PV system and 3 collective housing with a 2 kWp PV system.

Urban scale PV aspects
At the very beginning of the project, the PV system was not part of the development scheme. Environmental issues were first discussed when one shareholder of the SERL, the public company in charge of the commercialisation of the land raised the idea of using an environmental management method for the construction of this project. France-Terre, the developer selected for the construction of this project, chose then to pay special attention to the materials used for the construction and to the integration of photovoltaic systems, which was an innovating alternative to water solar heaters in urban and collective housing projects.

Special PV project info
PV architecture and building integrationThe developer of this project initially planed to build each roofs with dark clay tiles in order to improve the aesthetical integration of each PV system but the architects in charge of heritage listed buildings requested that the roof of individual homes had to be made of red tiles. This lead the promoter to design each multi-apartment buildings with flat dark tiles and individual homes with red curved tiles, both compatible with the chosen PV tile. 25 kWp are spread on 19 individual houses and 3 collective housing building
Urban planning issuesIn order to offer the same quality to all home owners, the developer decided to install a 1 kWp PV system in the roof of each house, even if the roof was not perfectly facing south, mainly due to urban planning constraints.
Economical and financial issuesProject financing: European Commission (PV-STARLET project): 30% ADEME (national energy agency): 20% Rhône-Alpes regional council: 30% Total of financial help for private end-users : 80% of the PV project including VAT.
PV ownershipIn the case of individual homes, each private home owner will also owns the PV system integrated in the roof of his house. In the case of multi-apartment buildings, the joint ownership owns the PV system integrated in the roof of the building.
Tariffs and meteringFeed-in-tariff
Each system has a purchase contract with the utility with a regulated feed-in tariff of 0.14 €/kWh for a guaranteed period of 20 years.
Info on grid issuesAll the electricity produced by each system is sold to the grid in order to benefit from the feed-in tariff, which means that each system will have its own connection to the grid. In the case of individual homes, each private owner will sign the contract with the utility for the purchase of the energy produced by the PV system. In the case of multi-apartment buildings, the joint ownership will benefit from the feed-in tariff and share it among owners. As the procedure to connect the PV system to the grid and to benefit from the feed-in tariff is too much complicated for private owners, the promoter decided to help his clients with those administrative procedures and will sold each home turn-key with a signed contract with the utility.
Other infoThe PV system represents less than 1 % of the total price of the delivered house (2,000 € after subsidies compared to 250,000 € for the house)
