Project summary
Dubbed as ‘Zero Energy Office (ZEO) building’, PTM is showcasing sustainable and green building design in the South East Asia region. Four different PV systems/technologies are installed in this building. The first and biggest comprises of 47.28 kWp polycrystalline modules on the main roof, followed by amorphous silicon modules with a capacity of 6.08 kWp on the second main roof. The building atrium is using a glass-glass semi-transparent PV modules with a capacity of 11.64 kWp. The car park roof is integrated with a monocrystalline PV modules with a capacity of 27 kWp.

Best practice project
The building design emphasized on energy efficiency (100% day-lit, efficient lightings, floor slab cooling, double-glazed windows, etc). The building is self sufficient with enough power from BIPV systems for the targeted building energy index of less than 50 kWh/m2/year (4200 m2 floor area, to accommodate up to 111 staff).

PV architecture and building integrationThe four BIPV systems were incorporated into the building as part of the building element during the design stage of the building. All consultants including the architect, C&S engineers and M&E engineers were fully involved in the design and integration of the BIPV systems.

The kWh generated from the PV is sold to the national utility (Tenaga Nasional Berhad) at the same purchased tariff of RM0.323 sen/kWh (note US$1.00=RM3.30).
Remarks and recommended readingThe four BIPV systems were contracted to four different PV contactors and the prices varied form one contractor to another depending on the type of PV technology used. The total PV system investment included all four systems and the price is more expensive for the glass-glass PV modules.
