SummaryThis practical experiment is an example of energy-benign renovation in the utility sector. The building is situated on property of the Netherlands Energy Reseacrh Centre (ECN) in Petten. The south face of the building is designed for passive cooling (sun screen) and optimal utilization of solar energy. 300 square meters of solar panels are placed on the façade, 100 square meters are placed on the staircase and the roof gets another 300 square meters. The regular solar panels are integrated in an industrially manufactured sun screen. The total electrical power is approximately 70 kWp. An important goal of this practical experiment is to gain experience in the system. Not only is focused on the technical, energetic and architectural parts, but also on the aspects of maintenance, use and general experience. To take away any uncertainties, especially about these last few aspects, an experiment has been conducted to gain knowledge about the mechanics, engineering and general experience. The results are used for the ultimate design.
