SummaryThe Birmingham Alexandra Stadium is a high performance indoor athletics training facility and is part of the framework of the DTI Large Scale Building Integrated PV Field Trials. The installation is unusual in that it relies on thin film devices (1760 Kaneka modules). These are connected to 30 SMA inverters (29 x SB2500 and one SB3000), thus providing an overall system capacity of 102 kWp of DC power installed, connected to inverters of 75.5 kW of rated power. This undersizing of inverters should optimise the system efficiency in the low light conditions, where about 30 % of the resource is available and which would otherwise be underutilised.
