Summary"El Barranquet" is a multipurpose center that offers several public services to the citizens of El Campello (a small town of the Alicante province, in the east of Spain), with the aim of disseminating cultural activities, encouraging social participation and community integration. The building includes an auditorium, a library, a gimnasium, and several rooms for municipal services and local associations. Sustainability was the main project objective through the use of bioclimatic principles (with natural lighting and ventilation being two important strategies) and a rational use of energy, water and materials. Minimisation of non-renewable energies was another design objective, through the use of passive and active solar energy. Also, high efficiency in energy use was pursued by means of selecting efficient equipment for the building installations and their optimisation by means of domotics.management.
