SummaryIn 1995 residences with solar power were built in the Nieuwland neighborhood, Amersfoort by the housing cooperation SCW. It concerned 50 residences with a solar pv system in combination with a thermal solar gas combo heating system. The first solar power systems have been on since September of 1995. The last have been on since June of 1996. In the fall of 1996 the first leak was reported to SCW. Subsequently research to find cause and solution was done. After a few tries to repair the residences individually, it became clear the dimension and amount of leaks needed a comprehensive procedure. The initiative for this was there in 1999. The basic design – with open roof box – was not changed. Only the details of the design were improved. The improvements were carried out extremely carefully, because the inclination of the roof is only 20 degrees. Therefore, draining takes longer than in the case of a more sloping roof. Because of that, it was absolutely necessary to consult a building physics specialist.
